‘The Demix’ Rod Demick is one of the United Kingdom's top sidemen. In addition to stints with the David Essex Band, the Strawbs, the Jim McCarty Band, and Bees Make Honey, Demick has played bass for Dr. John, Guitar Shorty, George "Mojo" Buford, Ron Kavana, Terry Woods, Taj Mahal, Snooky Pryor, and Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. Along with lead guitarist Herbie Armstrong, he backed Screaming Lord Sutch on a six-month European tour in 1970. He toured the United States as opening act for Dire Straits with British vocalist/guitarist Ian Gomm. Leaving the Strawbs in 1999, Demick went on to become a member of the Kingsnakes, with whom he still plays. His wife Sarah, who works locally as a carer, is an accomplished singer.
Despite their interest in Rhythm and Blues, both are willing to join in with Cragg Atak’s rather sugary play list.
Pete and Carol • Although not their type of music, both are avid fans of Cragg Atak. Being members of at least a couple of Manchester bands, their usual output can be described as techno-gothic-punk. Pete was a pupil at our local school when his father Allan Wilson was headteacher; Carol’s family live locally.
Sue Wilson • The last full-time member to join the band, Sue Wilson adds depth and harmony (and some musicality) to our rock ‘n roll a bop-a-gogo gigs with a combination of stunning keyboard twiddles and backing vocals. Away from the glitzy glamour of Cragg Atak, she works as an assistant in a local library.
Allan Wilson • Until its closure in 2006, Allan Wilson was headteacher of our local school, where he occasionally strummed a few chords for the kiddies. In his spare time now, when not playing rhythm guitar in Cragg Atak, he runs a photography and studio portrait business from his shop in Ulverston.
Tip the Bass • You know what they say about bass players being musically inept? Yep, well it’s proved here with Paul Tiplady, Director of Craggatak Consultants and bass player in Cragg Atak. Paul occasionally takes the lead vocals but has noticed that the room empties completely when he does so.
Drum Chick Sue • Drummers are usual regarded as being on a par with bass players musically but this is not true in the case of Suzanne Tiplady, another Director of Craggatak Consultants. She not only provides the band with drum beats and fills but lead vocals as well – an unusual and quite difficult combination.
Robbie Rotten • A closet guitarist until joining Cragg Atak, Rob Bruce is now almost a one-man-band himself. Landlord of our local hostelry, the Eagle’s Head Inn, he plays lead and slide guitar, shares the lead vocals with Drum Chick, and gives a dazzling performance on penny whistle, cazoo and jug.
